Litter-Robot 4 shield to help contain litter in the globe

Litter-Robot 4 to shield or not to shield?

The lovely sleek clean look of the more open Litter-Robot 4 globe is quite a design statement. But is the larger entry a good thing?

It really depends on your cats.

If you have flickers and kickers, who delight in flinging litter over shoulders and out of the globe whilst digging for gold in their litter box, then the more enclosed globe of the Litter-Robot 3 maybe the better option.

Sometimes you just wont know until your cat is into the new automatic lifestyle. If you do discover your cat or cats are litterers,  there is an accessory to help if litter scatter is a problem.

We have been testing the shield with our smaller girl and have found it has decreased tracking a little. Ebony is not a flinger so not the best product tester. The fit was quick and easy, noting that the ramp attachement is tucked underneath the shield in the support packaging, so dont overlook it when unpacking.

The shield is neat and fits easily in place on the front of the globe, providing more privacy and a smaller entry with less opening for tossing out litter.

Ebony has not had any issue with using the Litter-Robot with the added accessory, and I think finds it an improvement as she is sometimes stalked and pested by our large ginger boy Pixel. The more enclosed space provides her with a better sense of security.

We have the ramp fitted, and I feel its necessary as the shield makes entry a little more challenging. The ramp provides an easy entry still rather than a leap of faith in (and out) for the cats with the shield in place.

Pixel prefers the Litter-Robot 3 as a usual choice, but will use the Litter-Robot 4. He is a large boy with a long body, almost a metre paw to paw and solidly built at 6.6kg. However, not unexpectedly, he has not been recorded as using the Litter-Robot 4 since the shield was installed. Its a matter of fit for the larger cats, with the shield making the entry smaller than the Litter-Robot 3.

In my opinion, if you have larger cats that flick and kick, then the Litter-Robot 3 more enclosed globe is a better choice, as it was designed for Ragdolls and MaineCoons. The Litter-Robot 4 has the more open globe for the larger cats, but adding the shield to contain litter negates the added spaciousness.

The installation instructions are simple and clear, once you have unpacked both items.

A few extra photos to help if needed.
