Q&A

One of my cats is refusing to use the litter robot properly (he’s started peeing on the ramp instead of inside. I suspect/hope it may be a smell issue) and it’s possible I may end up having to sell my 2 litter robot connects. Is there anything I need to do regarding the app/connect part? Can someone else still connect their devices to them? Or do I somehow need to disconnect them from my device first? Also, is there a good way to sell these devices that you would recommend?

( Kristen Andrews, 18/04/2021 )

Dear Kristen, sorry to hear you have an issue. Do get your boy checked, as its more usual for him to stop pooing if he is unhappy with the Robot. He may have urinary issues so get that ticked off asap. For smell, do a deep clean, including full wash to the globe. You can purchase a new liner if it has odour issues, but usually, treating with the Litter-Robot Spray cleaner, as a spray after wash and dry, and let dry (dont rinse off) allows the enzymes to continue working on any lingering odours in the black liner. If you have had the front lip coming off, take out the small black bolt under the front lip and check there is no dirt/soiled litter underneath. If there is, clean thoroughly and again, a spray with the enzyme cleaner will help any lingering odours. A new Carbon filter can help if you have tray odour.

If you do decide to onsell, full deep clean, good photos, and delete the Robot from your app and the app from your device. If there is an issue for the new buyer, they can ask USA to deregister as well, so do provide your email and if not an issue, password used for the registration, if there is any difficulty.

We  see onselling from time to time on FB market place most usually, but sometimes Ebay and gumtree. Local is best to try and avoid shipping costs.

Hello! I am looking at purchasing this for my wonderful furry companions (based on recommendations from friends!) But I note that this is available for pre order, and I'm wondering on the timelines for this as I am currently building a house, and need to know which address I should get this sent to ? alternatively, would I be able to change the address if I move before this is back in stock? Many thanks ( Celia, 07/04/2021 )

Dear Celia, thank you for your interest in the amazing Litter-Robot III Open Air. It certainly is a very good appliance for managing your lovely cats litter tray! Im sorry we are sold out. We have more on the way but at the moment, anticipated arrival is mid May. We are looking to do pre-order when we have a firmer timeline, mid April at this stage. If you do buy at pre-order, as long as you let us know when to change address, we can do so with no charge. Its only if your order ships that change of address is problematic.

We do have specifications (size) on the standard Litter-Robot product page, so you can check fit for your new home too.

I hope this helps! Do register to be notified on our website product page and we will let you know when pre-order opens.

As a tip, make sure you have your cats using suitable clay clumping litter  in their manual system BEFORE introducing the Robot, as familiar litter will help them recognise the Robot is the new litter box, just a different shape, and will make transition faster and easier for all.

Is it possible to purchase under NDIS payment plan?

( Rachael, 10/02/2021 )

We have had a number of suitably qualified clients purchase a Litter-Robot III Open Air  as part of the NDIS payment plan, to help them with the difficulties of managing a litter tray for their companion cats. Most of the purchases have been for Connect version, as it provides the ability to have support system remote monitoring. Its best to get in touch, with OT contact encouraged to provide insight into how helpful the Litter-Robot is as a litter box solution. Call 1300 350 635 or email sales@catevolution.com.au

Is there a list of litter that is compatible with it? Or is it any clumping litter?
I currently switch between vitapet kitchen clumping and trouble n trix clumping, would they be ok to use with it?

Also I find that it currently gets stuck on the litter box itself and I have to scrub it off, what is to prevent this from doing the same?

I've also read that it has a 90 day return.. so if my cats won't use it I can return it? If so how would that work with shipping? I'm just unsure if my scaredy cats will be ok with it !

Another thing is if you have one cat that goes and then after it leaves the other one goes in does it have a sensor as they are going in? If that makes sense. Just worried that if one leaves and the cycle starts as the other one is going in.

One more thing.. one of my cats can be a bit wobbly on her back legs sometimes due to medication she is on is it a bit high for them to get in and out of?

Thanks in advance!
( Brooke, 01/11/2020 )

The Litter-Robot is designed to work with most clay clumping litters. Particle size and weight is important in the sieving process. If unsure please ask and we will endeavour to help!

VitaPet and T&T are suitable, but T&T needs to be at most, 2cm under the line on the liner, as its very dense (heavy for volume). Also, use unscented

Fast clumping litter is better to avoid sticking issues. The Liner does have a weight on the underside so that when it is un dump position upside down, the liner drops down to help crack off any litter that maybe stuck to the liner.

If the Robot is unsuitable, it needs to be returned within 90 days cleaned, in original box with manuals etc, to our workshop in NSW for checking. If you want us to arrange return courier, we can do so but the cost is deducted from the purchase price for the Robot when the refund is completed.

The cat sensor is weight activated. If a cat enters, the cat sensor will stop rotation or if in timing mode, restart the timing mode once the cat exits.

For your wobbly kitty, the ramp or stairs provide a gentle entry, and exit, and also, help with tracking by keeping litter that comes of paws on the curved steps.

Do the robots come with AUS power plug? Thanks ( Lisa WAGNER, 14/04/2020 )

Yes, we have Australia compliant power plugs, not USA ones ;o)

Hi. Do the cat robots have the correct Australian plug? Or do you have to use an adaptor?

Thanks
( Lisa WAGNER, 14/04/2020 )

yes, we have Australia compliant power plugs, not USA ones ;o) No adapter needed!

Hi, just wondering if this unit will fit a very large cat? i.e. a Maine Coon

Thanks!
( Jo, 08/04/2020 )

The LR3 is actually larger by design, to fit Maine Coon and Ragdoll cats, as most automatic units are too small.

The dimensions are on the website under specifications.

Fully assembled 74.93cm H x 61.60cm W x 68.58cm D

Waste Drawer 12.7cm H x 31.75cm W x 40.64cm D

Oval Entry 39.37cm H x 26.04cm W

Litter Bed at Maximum Fill 35.56cm across

Inside Globe Widest Point 38-43cm H (depending on litter level) x 50.8cm W x 50.8cm D

Weight 10.89kg

Shipped 81.28cm H x 58.42cm W x 58.42cm D. 12.7kg

Big cats enter, turn and have paws on the entry lip and heads out, in the Open Air.

As a tip, ensure you are using suitable clay clumping litter before introducing the Litter-Robot to make transition easier.
I own the connect version ive used around 3 different clumping litters for it but everytime the pee will clump and stick to the base of the robot and while it cycles it does not come off. Is there anything i can do about this? Im having to manually scrap it off and its not pleasant at all. ( Jordan, 20/02/2020 )

There is a huge variety in litters available. The key to good litter for the Robot is fast clumping, low dust, and if possible, carbon or activated charcoal for odour help. For setting, if you are getting muddy streaks and unset litter when cycling, you may need to change the wait time or clumping time to allow longer for your chosen litter to set. Press and hold the EMPTY button for 3-5 seconds until one of the lights starts to flash. Blue is 3 minutes, yellow 7 minutes, red 15 minutes. Change by pressing RESET to toggle through the colour until you have the one longer than current setting, if you need more time to clump up. Press and hold EMPTY button for 3-5 seconds to save (light stops flashing).

If the issue is because your cats pee is going through the litter and pooling on the liner, without being absorbed by the litter, then you most likely need faster clumping/more absorbent litter. However, if you are living in a high humidity climate, then you may have setting issues due to the moisture in the air as well as your cats additions, and a mix with something courser to help keep some structure maybe needed.

For an alternative to clay litter, Applaws crush walnut shell is used by some customers. If you have a light cat, the cat sensor may need adjustment (just ask).

I am trying to ascertain how much noise it makes ? Is there anywhere I can see a demo? ( Jock, 28/01/2020 )

The Robot makes the equivalent noise to a quiet dishwasher, when actually cycling, for approx 2 minutes. There is no noise when not cycling, as the motor is not turning.

The Robot is in a number of semi-public locations around Australia, including some Cat Cafes, so if you advise your City, we maybe able to direct you to where you can see a Robot. There are also a lot of reviews on line, showing the Robot in action, which may help you with further assessing noise.

There is also a sleep function, so that you can lock out the Robot for 8 hours per day, non-cycling, for light sleepers. The non-cycle period repeats at the same time daily, until you cancel it.

The Litter-Robot is designed for indoor use, in small living spaces such as apartments. We have had ours in the lounge room and also in our bathroom opposite our kitchen, and both areas were and are not disruptive, as long as the space is available and a power point.

I have changed the bag and after watching the video have done it properly, but everytime the machine cycles the blue light flashes and the app tells me its full, I wouldn’t say everytime it cycles but its 90% of the time.  It didn’t do it when the first bag was in but since its been changed.  I’ve looked at how the bag is placed and its rolled down and tight as it can be around the edges.  I keep resetting it each time it does it as its definitely not full.

Any advice or comments would be great. ????

( Renee, 14/01/2020 )

Please ensure that the bag is folded over and secured with the tabs and is not "sticking up" anywhere.

Please also ensure that there is no dust or debris on or inside the DFI lens that could be tripping the laser. The lens is easy to clean with a dry ear bud, gently wiping any dust off the black lens that is located within the half circle cut out in the cover. The DFI is located within the base cavity, and can be accessed by removing the waste tray and looking up to the right inside the cavity. It is a green board, under a clear cover with a half circle cut out. It can also be seen and accessed more easily with the Robot dismantled for deep cleaning. You can test by taking the tray out and pressing reset, and cycle, with a non-used litter bed so there is nothing to dump out. If you get litter scatter, vacuum before replacing the tray when finished. When finished cycle, if you have a solid blue light, then the issue is tray install, not DFI dust. If its still flashing, it will be dust. Please provide a photo of the lens, for review.

NOTE For a fast check on if the flashing blue light/full drawer notice is dust related, you can easy access the lens by taking out the waste drawer, and (using your phone torch or a real torch) locate the lens right side under top of base. Give the black part in the middle of the half circle cut out cover, a gentle but thorough wipe over with a cotton bud (dry) and see if that addresses the issue. No need to turn off the Robot to do this.

Press RESET to clear the flashing blue light when you have done the clean, then put in the waste drawer and press CYCLE to test.

If its solid blue when complete, it would appear dust is the issue.

If its still flashing blue, it maybe the tray or a fault.  Please get in touch at sales@catevolution.com.au
I'm having issues with the "drawer is full" blue flashing light. Using both alternative bags and the preferred bags for the litter robot.

Given it's always flashing blue, I generally have to notice it and press reset for it to go back to normal functioning, but this is getting really irritating.
( Adam, 31/12/2019 )

If that does not solve the issue, and you are confident you have fully cleaned the lens, please attempt recalibration of the DFI.  To recalibrate, first remove the waste drawer liner and any waste and ensure the DFI Lens is clear of dust and debris.  Then press and hold "Reset" for about 6 seconds until the light blinks, when it does, release the "Reset" button. This should recalibrate the DFI.

Can more than one person in the house have the Litter-Robot Connected to their phone?

( FAQ, 07/12/2019 )

Anyone can log in
to the Litter-Robot with the same email and password (no onboarding required
once its been completed the first time). Download the App and login. Customers can only have 1
email/password login for each Litter-Robot. If you have more than 1 Litter-Robot in the home, you can add them to the same email and password (onboarding required for each Litter-Robot).

I have travelled from my home and it seems my Litter Robot Connect has gone offline. It was working fine before I left and I have been told that it is still cycling as normal in my absence. Is there anything I can do to fix it from my end or do I need someone at home to do something? Although there are other people at home, they are not too familiar with the operation of the Litter Robot and I want to be getting the notifications for when it cycles or if there are any issues.

( Shanyn P., 06/12/2019 )

Ask someone at home to perform a power cycle.  Review if app connected again.  (successful!!)

If not, check the following.

Is the Litter-Robot is too far from the router and not in range of the wifi?

A few items to consider:
1)If it's in the basement - customer may want to get a WiFi extender for the basement area
2)Brick walls will block the WiFi Signal
3)Sometimes the difference of the room door open or closed can also result in poor signal strength.

Please note that even though the Litter-Robot says offline, it's still functioning, just not reporting to the App during this period.

If needed, the following may also assist, if there has been an App update.

While in the App, press log out.
Delete the app from their phone.
Power down phone.
Power phone back up and download App with updates.
Log in using the same email address and password.

I’m so happy to report that I cleaned everything with the magic eraser and the second I clicked the hood back in it started to cycle. I didn’t even have to press reset. I have chucked the cat in 3 times for it to cycle and it has done so each time without errors I have also wobbles and pressed and pulled on the hood and this hasn’t upset it either!!
Seriously though how good are magic erasers, the amount of black stuff that came off even after I thought I cleaned them as incredible!
Thanks so much for everything, I really appreciate your time and patience

If you have a cat or two you need a Litter Robot. The convenience of just removing a bag 1-2 times a week and replacing it with a new one is fantastic. I use old Woolworths bags as fit well. Accumulated heaps over the years. Coles bags are too small. I use the cheapest clumping cat litter and it works fine. I used to have to buy move expensive cat litter for normal litter boxes as cheap litter would not work as well in these. Its an expensive outlay but find as I recycle Woolies bags and cheap litter it has paid for itself.

Best purchase ever!
My 2 cats started using the litter robot immediately and we haven’t looked back.
The help and tips provided from cat evolution are beyond amazing and you can tell they go above and beyond for their customers to make sure they are happy. The machine was simply to set up just plug in and set up the app and have had no issues at all so far. Worth every penny!

I have been using the litter robot since 2018 for my 2 cats and it is absolutely a necessity. Not only is the product a standout for quality the service from cat evolution cannot be topped. In the recent rain storms my litter robot sustained some water damage. I logged a support ticket over the Easter long weekend and the team were in touch immediately helping me trouble shoot my problems and get my robot back online. Do yourself a favour and get one of these amazing machines

Our Litter Robot arrived Tuesday, our 2 cats are using it now with no problems! Our older Devon Rex who we think has had a stroke earlier this year was the first to use it. I set it up Tuesday afternoon and didn't even show her. She manages to get in and out no problems. It seems to be a game changer so far.
